The previous meeting was held on Tuesday 9th March, 2011.
Twenty four people joined this months meeting - a mixture of players and non players!
The evening started with the usual little chat - this month consisted of
1. Carlo Errico Handcrafted Guitar - was safely returned after it's third hire - to Neil Browning. The 'Errico Guitar' is now installed with another player for a month !! Carlo was also at the meeting for players to try his guitars and discuss ideas!
2. Colin suggested that who ever hires Carlo's guitar gives some feed back - watch this space!
3. Sitting position - Does eveyone hold their guitar at 45 degree angle? Different styles of playing -Flamenco, Classical and other Finger Styles all have a different way of holding the guitar! I commented on how at 9 years old (not long ago!) I was taught basic chords - crossed legs - by a folk guitarist. But - he then suggested Classical lessons. The first thing my new tutor introduced me to was a foot stool - and therefore a new position . . .straight back, 'relaxed' shoulders and guitar at 45 degree (ish)angle! It is now impossible (well - very difficult ) for me to play any other way - I can't reach 12 fret! We have many different styles at NWGC and therefore many different playing postures/positions.
4. Flamenco - still on going talks with 'Pimientito' from Granada, Spain re a possible 'Flamenco Workshop' this year! 'Pimientito' is the Spanish name oesteopath 'Mark Shurey' has earned from well respected Flamenco guitarists in Spain - see links page for further details on Pimientito.
5. Reminder that our May meeting wiil actually be our annual recital and masterclass with Concert Classical Guitarist Jonathan Richards. Raffle tickets were sold this evening and will also be on sale at next months meeting - prizes are selection of cd's by Jonathan Richards, Mike Edmonds and Colin Tommis or a box of Thorntons! The raffle will be drawn in May.
6. Due to refurbishment of Anglesey Arms Hotel- the June NWGC meeting will be held a week early - Tuesday 7th June, 2011. Discussions are underway for a venue for our July meeting - to be confirmed!
Then - following this light hearted litle chat - we split into our different groups - some played Ensemble with Colin, whilst others played Flamenco, Classical and other fingerstyles else where in the room!
Ensemble pieces were chosen and distributed by Chris Langley. Chris has very kindly undertaken this role for almost two years - and has decided that April will be his last time! Everyone taking part in Ensemble has appreciated the time and effort Chris has put into this! Llew, Mandy and Kerry will over see the Ensemble. Colin also brought with him a selection of Ensemble pieces to work through.
At 9.30 - the group re-assembled to play infront of an audience. (Jane excused for not playing - due to trapping her left hand middle finger in the door . .. ouch!)
The evening ended at 10.30pm.
